Portable Fire Extinguishers For The Surgery Center Medicare Certification Inspection

You want to make sure that you have the appropriate number of portable Fire Extinguishers mounted for your surgery center accreditation and certification inspection.  They should not be hidden or obscured from view.  Installation of fire extinguishers can be on brackets or approved cabinet’s specific for casing the portable unit.  Cabinets should be kept un-locked.  You must perform monthly inspections on each portable unit by ensuring that the unit is “in the green” indicating that the unit is full; this is also verified by picking up the unit.  You also want to make sure safety seals are not tampered with or broken and inspect if there is any physical damage to the unit.  You must record these monthly inspections on the back of the fire extinguisher card or create your own inspection log.
